Green Home Certification Guide | Raleigh Green Home Builders
If you're considering building or buying a green-built home in the greater Raleigh NC area,
you may already have some ideas about what should be included.
Or maybe you just know that a green home is
healthier, better for the environment and lower-maintenance than a standard home,
but you want to know more about the details.
Green Home Certification Levels
There are five green home certification programs in North Carolina, each with its own level and
specification of "greenness."
In the Research Park Triangle, you'll most likely see certification through the NAHB Green certification
program.
Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Emerald: Green Home Certification Standards
Three basic levels of certification can be attained by meeting a minimum number of individual attributes, each of which is assigned a point value.
Bronze level green home certification is the most affordable way to effectively and holistically weave green building
options into every step of construction, but Silver and Gold have additional qualifications that may be important for the type of green
home you'd like to live in. Emerald certification is extremely rare.
Nearly any home plan can be built green.
They need to be certified, by local third party inspectors and innovators such as award-winning
Southern Energy Management.

Green Building Categories
Each of the following six NAHB Green certification buliding categories have guidelines that must be met, with varying values assigned to each.
